Marine Fishes :: Herrings & Shads ::
Common Name(s): Bigeye Ilisha This herring is sometimes called the "Night Tamban" because anglers tend to catch them as nightfall approaches. This is also the time when the normal tambans will stop feeding. They're active during the early hours of the night and are attracted to light sources. They can be caught the same way as normal tambans using small feather jigs. The Bigeye Ilisha has a deeper body than White Sardinella(Tamban) and distinctly larger eyes too. Its tail is slightly yellowish and body soft. They're a good source of live bait for night fishing, typically at Bedok Jetty. Discuss and find out more about this fish Reference: Fishbase
