Marine Fishes :: Mullets & Sand Whitings ::
Common Name(s): Silver Sillago, Silver Sand Whiting Sand whitings dwell in shallow waters all round our coast, moving near to shore when the tide rises. They favour sandy habitat but may also dwell in muddy seabeds or a mixture of both. They are usually found in groups and easily caught using small hooks with worms or small pieces of prawn meat. They're good eating fish and are also known to be excellent bait for catching stingrays. Sand whitings have very small mouth so small hooks are required. Use of 'Apollo rig' with three hooks are usually recommended. Bait should be hooked firmly and not oversized. Discuss and find out more about this fish Reference: Fishbase, Fishspecies, RMBR
